ABOUT ME
Hi! I'm Garrett -- drummer, musician, and local OB resident.
Drumming Experience:
I started when I was 8, by fumbling around, trying to play along to tracks I recorded on a tape deck from 90s radio at the time (while my parents were probably nearby regretting their decision to buy me an actual drum kit). It wasn't long before the passion for drumming grew and I joined the school music program.
I trained through the full school program, including symphonic band, jazz band, orchestra, drum competitions, and marched in drumline for one of Dallas, TX’s prominent schools. I received recognition for outstanding achievement in percussion and went on to become the original drummer for Metro Station (though not my typical music taste). I also was the lead singer and writer in the band Nova Night before I eventually hung it up to focus on my career in software.
Now, as a software entrepreneur with a passion for music, I like to spend free time teaching drums and spreading a passion for music writing, and performing.
CUSTOMIZED LESSON PLAN
Every student has unique interests and ambitions, so I design lesson plans that focus on your goals and skill level. And most importantly, keeping the process fun and engaging.
I’ve had the opportunity to learn from many different instructors and perform in many different settings (playing with ensembles, full jazz bands, rock and electronic gigging bands, and in competitive drumline). This experience allows me to offer not only skills, but also insight and advice for students interested in pursuing any of these directions.
IN-HOME SESSIONS
I offer travel-to-you drum lessons with my Roland TD-17 professional electronic kit and amp. It’s a quick set up and makes play-together sessions easy and efficient.
This way students can practice on their own kit as we work through lessons together, allowing for students to maintain the feel of their drum set during skill building. This helps with technique building and subtle muscle control that is critical for growth.
